Hi everyone! Some months ago a good friend of mine and former fellow student suggested this song to me. I hadn't even heard of Ben Howard until then, but I listened to some of his songs and loved them immediately. When I looked a little deeper, I was even more surprised! Apart from Ben Howard being an incredibly talented guitarist and singer, there are his side-kick musicians, who are all multi instrumentalists like myself. And as if this wasn't enough yet, they're switching instruments WHILE they play their songs live. It's like... ok intro... we need some more percussion... a little later: alright, how about some cello now? Then the song builds up, the finale is closing in - now we need real drums and bass - and boom! And there is this other song in which the drummer plays fingered bass, mostly as hammer-on with his left hand, while using his feet for bass-drum and hihat, and hitting the hihat cymbals with the headstock of the e-bass, while his free right hand strokes other cymbals with a timpani stick. The snare is outsourced to the person who usually plays the cello... but not right now... it's so crazy and amazing!! For this giant circus to work somehow, the songs just got to be well composed. Of course they are, and very diverse, too. I decided upon this song - Gracious - for its beauty and simplicity. I can't compete with the original really, it's way above my skills. But I hope I managed to imbed some notion of what Gracious is about. No effects, just some minor cleaning and a video filter for mood purposes.
