Limestone Branch Distillery - 2017 Pacesetter

Craft distilleries are a relatively new player in the storied bourbon industry. One of the most successful Kentucky artisans on the craft bourbon trail is family-owned Limestone Branch Distillery in Lebanon. Owners and brothers, Steve and Paul Beam, are seventh generation bourbon distillers with a rich family heritage on both sides of the family tree. Their great-great grandfather, Joseph Washington Dant, an early bourbon pioneer, began distilling in Marion county around 1836. And their great grandfather was Minor Case Beam, the eldest son of Joseph M. Beam, of the legendary Beam lineage. In 1795, Jacob Beam be- gan producing bourbon not far from where Limestone Branch is located today. Even though prohibition interrupted the family’s distillery ownership, their grandfather, Guy S. Beam, carried on the family heritage as a Master Distiller for many of Kentucky’s nest distilleries. With the support of family, the Beam Brothers embarked on a journey to resurrect the family craft utilizing recipes from their grandfather’s notebook and experience from the Beam family master distillers who came before them. Under the guidance of their father, Jim, the brothers reconstructed a small craft distillery reminiscent of their ancestors’ era. A 150-gallon hand-hammered copper pot still that produces small one-barrel batches of supreme spirits is a prominent xture. Using family recipes, traditional distilling methods, and locally sourced limestone water, Limestone Branch Distillery quickly gained prominence in the craft distillery industry. By accessing market demand, they expanded their product mix to include avored spirits, rye whiskey, and distinct bourbons. The distillery’s products have garnered wide acclaim, including: T. J. Pottinger Moonshine - Gold Medal at the 2012 American Distilling Institutes’ Artisan American Spirits Awards and Moon Pie® Moonshine, named World’s Best Liqueur at the 2015 World Liqueur Awards. With a commitment to quality and love for the craft, the owners have strategically grown the business, currently employing 10 people and expanding into national distribution. Sales have far exceeded original projections, there are plans for new product offerings, and expanded market reach. In 2015, the company entered into a joint venture with Luxco to bring the Beam family’s 143-year-old Yellowstone brand bourbon back to its Kentucky roots. Luxco, a leading producer, importer and marketer of alcohol beverage products is a prime strategic partner in the future growth and success of the company.
