Railfanning Pan Am Railways' District 2 between Andover, MA and East Kingston, NH during the month of October, 2013. We'll see some fall colors as well as some HLCX lease power that has returned to Pan Am rails after repaying horsepower to CSX. The BNSF paint adds some color to the railroad and blends nicely with the foliage. Power swaps have also been made at Lowell since mid-summer which is delaying the SEPO/POSE trains but accounts for Pan Am/lease power on this pair rather than the same old, same old CSX power. 1) SEPO (Selkirk, NY - Portland, ME) at State Line 10/15 SEPO conforms with an approach indication on the distant signal to CPF-273 as he slows his train crossing over the state line from Massachusetts to New Hampshire. In just a few days the light would be gone at this hour. Power: MEC 611 (SD40M-2) MEC 614 (SD40M-2) HLCX 7843 (SD40-2) 4) POED (Portland, ME - East Deerfield, MA) at East Kingston 10/16 With fall colors at their peak, POED rolls past the former B&M depot in the village of East Kingston, NH in a sight that never gets old. The train is throttling up after slowing following a detector malfunction at Exeter having just received permission from the District 2 dispatcher to continue west. Power: HLCX 7180 (SD40-2) HLCX 8145 (SD40-2) 5) EDPO (East Deerfield, MA - Portland, ME) at East Kingston 10/16 After a meet with Amtrak 686 and POED at Plaistow, the "slurry express" flies past the depot at East Kingston with an ex-BNSF leaser on the point and 26 loads of Limestone Slurry for the paper mills of Maine. 6) POED (Portland, ME - East Deerfield, MA) at Plaistow 10/25 In the last light of the day, but partially behind the clouds just as the head end comes by, POED thunders through the interlocking at Plaistow with three 645 prime movers wailing.
