Ferrari 365 GT 2+2 It is totally unfair that everyone can’t afford a Ferrari 500 Superfast. It all comes down to money and that often occurs because we choose poorly at birth when it comes to parents. So we take matters into our own hands with a good education, hard work, and strive to become as successful as possible. Perhaps that’s still not enough and owning one of the 36 500 Superfasts produced is still out of the question for most of us. But I’ve learned some lessons in life and here’s another one of them; we can nearly have a Ferrari 500 Superfast for a fraction of the cost. It’s called the 365 GT 2+2. Worlds apart in price, the 365 GT 2+2 and 500 Superfast are easily mistaken for one another as both their looks and dimensions are so close. An inch here, an inch there, side by side these cars look very much the same. Both were designed by the trusted firm of Pininfarina, separated only by four or five years, and it’s no accident that the long, flowing lines of the 500 Superfast ended up on the 365 GT. Though obviously not as rare as the Ferrari Superfast, the factory only produced 800 of the 365 GT 2+2, and many of them are simply no more. Designed as a long distance tourer rather than a pure sports car, the 365 GT 2+2 is fast, capably of 150MPH, but just as comfortable dodging slow moving trucks and hauling friends and family in immense style. This particular car has been spared the red and tan color combination that is appealing on Ferrari sports car but would hide the elegant body work, and plexiglass headlight covers accentuate the curves. Think comfort and speed, not just speed alone. The Colombo designed 4.4-liter produces 320HP, and the sound is unmistakably a V12 Ferrari. I never get tired of driving vintage Ferraris. Climbing through the rev range is a delight and the 5 speed full synchro transmission is butter smooth to shift. As riveting on the road as any contemporary Ferrari, I stopped counting the thumbs up, the smiles and waves, and the older guy who simply said, “you just don’t see this everyday”.
