Qigong for Kidneys (The Fountain)

Hello Everyone! This week's sequence is The Fountain, which is the flowing Qigong movement for the Kidneys. The Water Element is associated with the Kidneys and the Urinary Bladder organs. The Qi of the Water element is most prominent in winter when the cold creates a time for hibernation and plants go into their dormant cycle storing their energy for the spring to come. The color of this element is dark, dark blue, almost black. The kidney energy is the vitality of the body and focusing on enhancing the kidney energy during the winter season is so important for giving you more energy and vitality for the more active seasons ahead. Kidney energy is foundational energy and it supports all the other energies of the body. It is always beneficial to support the energy of the kidneys. The principal of movement to be applied here is relaxation. Moving the body with a sense of relaxation and ease. As the body moves, try not to apply a great deal of force. Less is more. The goal is to release tension and tightness and drop into a relaxed flow state. Let the energy within you, move you. Finally, as always listen to your body. Do what you can and don't do what you can't. Modify where you need to. The first exercise in the series, which calls for a simple spine twist can be done while sitting on a chair or stool. Perfect for folks with desk jobs who sit for long periods of time. When holding a static, standing posture like The Bear be aware of any tension or tightness that exists or builds in the shoulders, upper back and arms. Feel free to stop, shake the arms out and assume the posture again with a renewed sense of relaxation. Enjoy!
