Botched surgery in Turkey as woman left with PTSD after being operated on while awake | Newstalk

A woman who travelled to Turkey for a tummy tuck and a breast augmentation surgery has said she returned home looking “like a jigsaw puzzle”. South Wales woman Sarah Platt spent £15,000 on the procedure that took place earlier in the year. On Lunchtime Live she said she had previously undergone successful surgery in Turkey – but her latest operation has completely upended her life. Ms Platt said the latest operation has completely upended her life. “They operated on me while I was awake, they held me down, so I have complex PTSD from that,” she said. “I felt everything inside me, it was horrific. I’ve also got two large holes in my stomach, I’ve lost my breasts, and I’ve only got part of one breast left. “I can’t lift my arms above my head properly, It’s extremely painful because of scarring. “He cut through my lymph nodes, he cut through my armpits, he cut through everything. I’m like a jigsaw puzzle.” Ms Platt said she knew there was something wrong straight away. “I asked to see the surgeon straight away,” she said. “I couldn’t breathe when I woke up, they told me it was normal but I knew for a fact it wasn’t normal. “I remember looking to my left-hand side and there was blood. I had lost six pints of blood. “I was only supposed to be in surgery for eight hours and I ended up being down in surgery for 12 and a half hours.” Ms Platt said what was advertised to her online turned out to be fake. “I researched it properly; I was looking into it for 17 months and flew out a year before my surgery. “I met eight surgeons, I went to eight hospitals, I properly looked into it. “But all of the reviews, certificates, photos – it was all fake. All my surgeons’ reviews were fake, they weren’t even real reviews. “They give you a false sense of security, make you think they care about you, but they really don’t.” Ms Platt said she has been receiving help from the NHS since. “They were able to save my life, they were able to cut away all the dead parts of my body which was rotting,” she said. “I’m working with them now and trying to get the Government to put something in place to stop this advertising and allowing them to get more victims. “But it’s going to cost me about £28,000 pounds to have my breasts fixed because they’ve taken off too much skin. “My breast exploded basically and my nipple died and fell off.” Ms Platt said she takes morphine daily to help with the pain. “I take mental health medication as I went into total psychosis after it because my body was in so much trauma,” she said. “They had to section me, I didn’t know who I was or didn’t know my children’s names. “I’m just using this now to advocate and help stop other people from going through what I went to.” Ms Platt said she has filed a lawsuit against the surgeon behind the botched operation, which is set to be heard in Turkish courts in January.
