As I share a day in my life, I think it would be remiss of me to not address the current state of the Black Lives Matter Movement. As we are continually seeking to understand and learn how to unravel our privilege and understanding how to better advocates for the Black community, one important strategy I have been working on with my students and myself, is to recognize negative self-talk and how to manage it. In addressing the scary things happening in our world right now, it is important to not only engage in conversations with our kids, but also provide strategies and techniques to supplement their learning. In a time that is incredibly stressful and confusing, it is important to remember to breathe and say something kind to yourself. I think that we are in a time period where major historical changes are going to happen, but it won’t happen without disruption. As I continue to educate myself on the issues, keeping in mind how to manage negative self-talk was really important for me. I hope it is for you as well.
