However, in this video we will teach you how to do some simple tests at home (remember: always confirm any diagnosis with your doctor) to help determine if your feet, and specifically pronation at the arches of your feet, are stressing your SI joints. When the arches of the feet drop during walking or running that is called pronation. If a person's arches drop too much that is called overpronation or "Pronation Distortion Syndrome." This pronation can lead to abnormal wear patterns on your shoes. But it can also lead to aberrant biomechanics that can cause foot and ankle pain, medial knee pain, lateral hip pain, SI joint pain, and pain into the back. There are some simple solutions that you can use to remedy overpronation if it is determined that it is causing your pain. We go over how putting in simple shoe inserts to help with pronation can bring SI joint pain relief. We discuss different types of orthotics, from over-the-counter to custom shoe orthotics. Looking to the feet as a cause of sacroiliac joint pain and learning how to fix SI joint pain through shoe inserts (when appropriate) is a game changer. Indeed, there are so many different areas of pain (back, hip, knee, foot, ankle, and SI joint pain) that can be coming from the feet that it is critical to check if your feet could be causing your pain.
