2020: SchoolsCupQtr-Final: Wallace HS v Enniskillen Royal GS - 22 Feb 2020

Wallace 19-10 Enniskillen Royal HIGHLIGHTS On a very blustery and damp day we witnessed a rugby match in which both sides - and particularly ERGS - displayed some fantastic handling and offloading skills. The first half saw a try from prop Cameron Doak after just a couple of minutes - which his brother Nathan Doak - playing at 10 - converted for 7-0. However for most of the remainder of the first half - with 69% possession - EGRS were encamped in Wallace’s 22. Only fantastic last man defence from Wallace managed somehow to keep the visitors at bay up to the halfway point. 7-0 at HT. Again Wallace were quicker off the mark in the second period and they scored tries in quick succession via wingers Finn Rankin and then Peter Heasley for a 19-0 lead. This video picks up from there and highlights again the pressure typical of ERGS’s display that day. Over and over they attacked in Wallace's half with impressive phase-play on such a difficult weather day. Eventually they converted that pressure into two tries - both by No 8 Callum Smyton. However with the score at 19-10 after the second try there simply wasn't enough time to narrow the deficit any more and the referee blew the game at that score. Wallace went on to beat Methody 22-17 in the semi-final at Ravenhill (see Youtube link    • Wallace v Methody 2020 Semi Final Sch...   ) and were to meet RS Armagh in the final on St Patrick’s Day but the looming Covid pandemic meant it had to be cancelled and the Cup shared between the two schools (only the second cancellation in the Cup’s long history).
