It is on the WHO list of Essential Medications. This means it's been found safe, effective and necessary. It costs about $25/month is the US. The major side effects are the same as all the other anti-clotting or anti-platelet drugs: bleeding or hemorrhage. There were other issues mentioned but not covered in depth: relatively higher benefit for smokers; dipyridamole; CHAD2VAS2.
