Dr. Shabir Ally says other verses in the Quran need to be balanced with the two mentioned, including 2:214, which suggest that God will test us with suffering and adversity that shakes us, but when we wonder, "when will Allah's help come," we are assured that God's help is near. In addition, God promises that if believers do good they will get good results, and if they commit evil, they will get negative results. God could be punishing us, and hence His promise will not come to pass until we rectify ourselves. We need to ask ourselves: Why do we disobey God in what He has prescribed for us? Why aren't we concerned with righting injustices in our societies and serving humanity? As a global Muslim community or ummah, have we done that which will bring about the mercy of God for all of us?
