Laundry sanitizers are an incredibly useful and powerful tool to keep in your laundry room. Here is a 4th generation dry cleaner's explanation of what they are and how to use them! To use liquid sanitizers add the recommended amount to the fabric softener slot of your machine and use the sanitizer cycle. When using OxiClean make sure to put the powder in the drum of your machine before loading your clothing. It's incredibly important to select a cycle that has a rinse cycle of 16 minutes+ or else the product will not work as intended. Identifying the length of a rinse cycle is very difficult so I recommend using the sanitize cycle. To disinfect WHICH IS DIFFERENT THAN SANITIZING soak your items in water and your sanitizing product for at least 15 minutes. You should wash your items after (a quick cycle will do). In my opinion you don't need to use a laundry sanitizer all the time. Think of it as power washing or deep cleaning; only use it when you or someone in your family requires it. Also, all of these sanitizing / disinfecting products have to be proven to do so! At home methods or DIY recipes will not work. Anytime a claim shows up on a product it needs to be backed up with well documented evidence or the FTC will not be happy. If you want to learn more about product claims let me know and I'll put something together. There are some pretty wild claims that I doubt are true out there. Happy cleaning :)
