Botswana’s Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo returned to action in awesome fashion, winning the men's 200m with apparent ease in 19.64 in Lausanne - Wanda Diamond League 2024. LT: "It feels amazing to be back running because, it's something that, uh, we athletes love doing, you know, not all the time you get to see us run because there's still going to be that off season. And then you just wish you could just get back into running because that's what we are meant to do. So I'm happy that I came back and did exceptionally well. You did really, really well. Also, considering you told us yesterday that you hadn't trained for eight days, so it was good to take that rest. You felt really fresh and and in great shape tonight? LT: "Yeah, the body still feels a little bit rusty, but at the end of the day, you just have to keep running. You have to just keep it rolling, you know, because when you close the season, that's when you start thinking about gaining weight. But since after Paris, we just make sure that we try and stick to the to the to the diet, even though it was hard seeing a lot of people eating whatever they want, you know, I would just sneak out and then just get something unhealthy to eat so that the body could just be happy because those different things matter to me." Do you actually put on a lot of weight during the off season? LT: "Uh, not too much weight about, uh, about five kg. More so that I can learn how to carry the body throughout it all. Now back to Paris. What was the craziest like phone call or message that you received after either your gold or your, uh, silver in the relay? LT: "Uh, I think the craziest thing was, uh was, um uh, everybody was shocked that I ran the 4x4 the following day. That's the only craziest thing I could think of. You know, I got the calls. I got everything about it. How could you do something like that? How do you run an African record yesterday and then the following day, you still split the fastest time, you know? So everybody was, It was really, really crazy." And how did you do that? Run that fastest time? LT: "Um, I just believed in the in the training that we did, I just believed in everything and just make sure that I execute her perfectly."
