Brain Training Apps and Brain Games - Do They Really Work?

Brain training apps such as games are often promoted to boost intelligence and cognition. But do they really work? Here we discuss the research. Several large sample research studies have shown that over time you get better in the games of brain training apps. However, do these skills translate to real life cognitive functioning. The evidence for that is less clear, but most research suggests that the translation value is small. However, these brain training apps can be beneficial to slow down cognitive decline, in elderly. So, the apps may have some use but are probably less great than they say they are. To keep up a good cognition, it is also important to have a healthy life style and a good social environment.
