Panasonic just announced the new Lumix S5 II and it's the answer to a lot of the questions or problems content creators face on daily basis. For someone like me, I self-shoot, and having a tool that can facilitate that is essential. I've been shooting a lot of my still images that have ended up in magazines and billboards using the Lumix S1, and in my studio, I use the Lumix BS1H as my A camera and sony cameras for my dynamic shots. The reason is mainly that I need something that can focus on me with no issues. The S5 Mark 2 (S5 II) is here and it has a lot going for it that will make me switch my whole workflow to the Lumix ecosystem. Let's talk about its design: It's very compact with the right amount of buttons placed in the right places. On the front, you have a button that can be customized to be what you need, I have mine set for focusing when shooting stills. On the right side, we have the dual memory card slot which I have set to record in relay mode so when one is done it carries on recording to the second card, the left side has all the ports but the one that's worth mentioning here is the full HDMI port, which means connecting to my NINJA V or my big studio tv doesn't need another mini HDMI cable converter, and on the back, you have an array of buttons that you get used to very quickly, but the main one worth mentioning here is the joystick that can be used for quickly navigating the menu system and up top you have the usual buttons and an easy-to-reach record button. What's brilliant here and overall is that you can easily control settings and get your shots within reach, nothing feels complicated here at all. Whether you're a beginner or a pro, the camera button layout is absolutely spot-on. Let's not forget the bottom where the battery is located. The battery is very good and long-lasting so you can practically leave the power on while you're out and about taking shots without worrying about it running out of juice. Without going into too much depth, the menu system is very straightforward and will be very familiar to any current Lumix user, but for anyone new to this ecosystem, tapping the menu on the back will allow you to make the S5 Mark 2 the way you like to shoot content. While a lot of things here aren't new, what's new is that with video mode selected, you can now add your luts, baked into your videos without paying extra. So you have a 10 LUT library up from four and can add lut in photo style on top of cinelike. As a creator, it means less time spent on editing or grading. You can go wild and record up to 6k 3:2, 5.9k 16:9, Cinema 4K 422 10 bit up to 60p, or even go 180 frames in FHD whilst still looking good. With a new fan design to keep things cool, you can record for unlimited time in all modes even at 40 degrees in cinema 4k. In this price bracket, I can't think of a camera that even lets you shoot in anamorphic mode. As a content creator, the things that matter to me the most are focus speed, video quality in terms of the dynamic range, shooting in Vlog, and stabilization. I'm not someone who shoots with a gimbal and most of the content I shoot is produced in a controlled environment in the studio. When I shoot my car content, I need a good level of stabilization. The Lumix S5 mark 2 delivers just that. As well as having a new full-frame sensor, Panasonic is finally giving us a Phase Hybrid AF with 779 AF points, that's way more than the Sony A7iv. It can Track several people in any lighting condition, you have low light illumination, it can handle backlit conditions and it just nails it each and every time. It's incredible what you can do when you listen to your users. Previously, the criticism is that yes it can focus fine using the contrast-based focusing system with some clever algorithm, but now we have phase detect which means faster focusing, and also keeping up with fast-moving scenarios. When you have more than one face in a shot, it can detect them and prioritize accordingly without any compromise. for stabilization, you can shoot with no gimbal, but if you decide to do so, it's very easy to calibrate, and all the new lenses are basically the same weight so you don't have to keep calibrating when you change lenses, but if you like me don't use a gimbal, Lumix is using an exclusive algorithm for IS for video, it's the best in the mirrorless hybrid market. Lumix calls it the Active I.S. and it determines the status of camera shake horizontally, vertically, and in rotation. It's 200% better than the current S5 and what this means is you can basically shoot handheld regardless of what lens you're using or what settings you have. So far, this is going to be the camera I use going forward with pinpoint autofocus, great stabilization, and dual ISO for low-light content capture. ~-~~-~~~-~~-~ Please watch: "Polestar 2 MY24 Review: Better Than the Tesla Model 3?" • Polestar 2 MY24 Review: Better Than t... ~-~~-~~~-~~-~
