Welcome to I’ll Knit (& Spin!) If I want To! I asked y’all to send in some of your questions (from everything from fiber arts, to designing and on!) so I could put together a little video for y’all every Friday doing my best to answer your questions! In this week’s episode we cover: 1. I'm a newish knitter and I've just completed my Weekender Light sweater but there's a definite difference in tension once I stopped knitting in the round and am knitting back and forth on the yoke area. It's improved after blocking but I can still see a looser tension. What would you recommend to avoid this in future? 2. I am 74 and have developed a dowagers bump on my upper back dead center. It causes my sweaters to pull up in back and be too short. When knitting, can you tell me what I could do to combat this problem? Thank you so much for any advice you might have for me and others with this problem! 3. I’m new to the group kal’s and am so excited and love the pictures of all the gorgeous knits and colors on Instagram. How do you post pictures of your work under the hashtag so that it shows up in the feed? When I post pictures it just shows up with my Instagram name at the top… and doesn’t pop up under the feeds. I thought just adding the hashtag to the comments would do it but it didn’t 😢 thank so much for your help! I absolutely love and look forward to watching your podcast every week 🥰 Happy Knitting! Thanks! 4. I am an experienced crochet maker and can happily crochet almost anything. I’d love to give knitting a go because I find there are more patterns to choose from that match my aesthetic but I feel so discouraged starting a fibre skill from scratch. Help! Specific questions: 1. What’s a high-quality set of tools that you’d consider beginner friendly but not poorly made/low quality 2. Should I use DPNs or are circulars the way to go for socks? 3. (I was wrong about the full set price, I was remembering the half set price!) 5. I am just learning how to Bricohe Knit and as a first project I decided to make the Harlow Worsted Hat. I watched the video for the Two Color Tubular Cast On Tutorial which was great. As long as I was only casing on a few stiches, about 20, the cast on went well. However as soon as I cast on the 72 stitches needed for the hat the cast on stitches started to twist on my cable which made it difficult to knit the first Tubular Row A. What is your suggestion to prevent this from happening when using this type of cast on? 6. Hi, Andrea! I have recently started spinning and because there are no local yarn stores near me, I have mostly been learning by watching classes on Craftsy including the Worsted to Woolen class you have mentioned in past episodes of I'll Knit If I Want To. I am curious to know what kind of drafting technique you use when you spin for socks! I am feeling kind of overwhelmed by all of the options there seem to be, but I would like to try to spin for socks because socks are one of the things that I knit the most!
