Every year the Southern Lakes Swimming Club in Queenstown sets a swimming challenge. This year (2023) the summer season's challenge is the near-impossible swimmers’ dream: to swim every named lake in South Island of New Zealand! There are more than 350 lakes in our beautiful island, so get ready for some swimming! This is not a competition between clubs. It is to celebrate swimming in the beautiful lakes of South Island and see how many can be swum. It is also to raise awareness of water quality and biodiversity in New Zealand's lakes, especially those less accessible ones.
