Historical Blacksmith Shop Silent Tour

Here is a (mostly) silent tour of the historical blacksmith shop at Steele City, Nebraska. Opened in 1900 and operated until 1962? (If I remember correctly) restored in the 1970’s as a museum, its current caretakers are the members of the Prairie Blacksmith Association who host hammer-ins and put on yearly blacksmithing demonstrations in the old blacksmith’s shop. You will notice that the doors in front are big enough to drive a car, buggy, or wagon in for repairs and the back is big enough for a horse to come through. Most of the tooling and ironwork you see on the walls came from the shop. You can see the line shaft and the hit-and-miss engine that powered the heavy equipment are still present. The prairie blacksmith association has added some equipment to the shop to accommodate multiple smiths to work, notably the propane forge, second anvil, and 25lb little giant power hammer. This concludes all I know of the building and its operation, if there is enough interest on more information I will contact the man primarily in charge of the building and sit down with him and document the full history of the building, the blacksmiths, and the tools.
