The route runs from Morbegno to Tirano and tells the history and scale of the endeavours of locals , who cultivated the steep slopes of these rugged mountains . As you admire these vineyards you could understand why viticulture is a heroic activity in Valtellina. In addition to the panorama , Via dei Terrazzamenti also offers a rich cultural experience , with churches , pre historic sites ,cellars , agritourism and ancient villages . Even Leonardi da Vinci during his time has noticed the particularity of these vineyards and the wines being produced here . Il presente e il futuro della Valtellina è nel lavoro quotidiano di tanti viticoltori e produttori che interagiscono con un'eredità straordinaria rappresentata da muri a secco , ripidi sentieri , scalette , manufatti rurali costruiti a costo di enormi fatiche e sacrifici .
