I was asked how to make a flatter.. so here is an example.. 50% of the videos have been questions pulled off a forum and then made the item so the person who asked the question then can see it being made.. The last time I made a flatter was 25 years ago and this video has some mistakes in the forging process on timing of the punching for the eye, (do it after the vise instead of before) the eye shape based on the tapered section (forgetting to thin the thin section of the eye because of the taper).. Rookie mistakes all based on when things take place.. In other words I punched the eye to soon. and I also tried to avoid using any major tooling other than hammer, forge and anvil and punch.. Of which I ended up using the vise.. There was simply no time effective way of doing it without the vise or a striker.. I have a vise but no striker so there you have it.. This video is also the first time I add and introduction to who I am.. Though vague it might offer some a chance to see me and the some of the work as well as the quality of the forgings...
