IAP Holds | Core Stability

Intra Abdominal Pressure (IAP) is an absolute requirement for optimal core stability. It is created by using the diaphragm's ability to activate the core from the inside. IAP Holds are typically an entry level low back pain exercise. To Perform: 1. Keep your back flat on the ground/table 2. Create a mild amount of abdominal stiffness by contracting the core muscles 3. Breathe in and expand the entire mid section using the diaphragm 4. Try to hold the expansion while slowing breathing at the same time 5. Raise the legs up to add difficulty IAP Holds utilize the concepts of Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS) by working in the 3 month supine position. This is helpful as an anti-extension exercise because the anterior core (abs) have to prevent the back from arching. All the while breathing.
