A look at some really interesting voicings in Land of the Sand People. When interlocked Herb seems to prefer Oboes at the top, but with enclosures later on he prefers Cl1, Ob1, Ob 2 , Cl 2 - interesting! nb that 'blended' orchestration is quite rare in JW (unlike Lord of the Rings where everything is blended). There is a separation of ideas (melody in strings but nowhere else, harmony in brass and nowhere else) quite often. I call that orchestral differentiation. Anyway - straight through this week!
