Mario Kart 8 - Cloudtop Cruise

Mario Kart 8 was developed by Nintendo and released for the Wii U in May of 2014, with a newer Deluxe version rereleased for the Switch in 2017. Its soundtrack was composed by Shiho Fujii, Atsuko Asahi, Ryo Nagamatsu, and Yasuaki Iwata. Cloudtop Cruise combines an original theme with an arranged portion of the music in the Gusty Garden Galaxy from Super Mario Galaxy (released 2007 for the Nintendo Wii, composers Mahito Yokota and Koji Kondo). To my ears, it really rushes through through the Galaxy callback, but then it is a racing game, so perhaps they just wanted to be thematic. Or more likely, they didn't want too long of a piece to deal with this track's musical gimmick, with variations based on the scenery. I didn't really have time to do variations of my own, and truth be told I much prefer the original setting, so this is just a short arrangement of that. Whoever played trumpet on the original deserves some serious kudos - the opening lick is surprisingly tricky, especially if you want it to sound controlled, and you have to do it three times! #AaronBueckert #brass #mariokart8deluxe Check out my other socials!
