As my travel continues I stumbled upon the community-focused 'Awake Coffee Shop' in Bucharest, Romania. This is definitely one of my proudest productions so far because of its richness and heart-felt content. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Journey of Resilience At just 18 years old, Robert stepped into the world of business with nothing but hope and determination, unexpectedly running a venture with no safety net and no contingency plans. The business, initially purchased by a friend with grand dreams of a bustling horace empire, was struggling from the start. Robert's friend, a passionate but inexperienced entrepreneur, had a history of failed ventures, and despite his best intentions, the business was faltering. When his friend unexpectedly left for America, Robert was left holding the reins of a sinking ship. With no prior business experience and no authority to make critical decisions, he faced an uphill battle. Sales were dismal, barely reaching 300 lei a day, and the financial strain was immense. Some days, Robert went without food, and months passed where he couldn’t even afford a salary for himself. He worked tirelessly, often from dawn until dusk, and on nights of sheer exhaustion, he found solace in the cramped confines of the shop’s bathroom, too weary to make the trip home. The struggle was compounded by a lack of access to the business’s bank account. His partner’s absence meant that Robert couldn’t get official access, and bills went unpaid as the funds from card sales were hoarded. Despite these obstacles, Robert was determined to keep the business alive. He saw the positive impact it had on the community, and that vision kept him going. With grit and perseverance, he managed to stabilize the business, even as he operated with only half of the revenue and paid full bills, taxes, stock, and overhead. As his former partner exited, Robert finally gained full control over the business. This newfound freedom allowed him to implement his vision, and with the support of a newfound mentor, he began turning the business around. Robert met a nuclear engineer, a seasoned businessman who offered mentorship and became a vital part of the team. His insights and expertise brought new ideas as well as the ability to bring some of Robert’s own ideas to reality. With upcoming equipment upgrades, a more aggressive business approach, refreshing the physical aspect, and innovative ideas, the business will grow even more. Robert’s journey has been marked by relentless effort and sacrifices.
