2023 IPSC Canada Handgun National Championship - Day 1

Day 1 of the 2023 IPSC Canada Handgun National Championship started pretty good but it was not without a few unfortunate hiccups! Just the same for my first National Championship in 5 years and having taken a break of two and a half years from IPSC shooting, I think I did rather well overall. I really need to practice my weak hand as it killed my performance on one particular stage. I have no excuses for the misses or no shoots as I was pushing myself hard and I went a little too fast at time. It’s as simple as that. I’m a Super Senior now and I think I can still keep up with the younger competitors. Lol A wisdom and experience hopefully will continue to give me the edge I need to remain competitive against some of the new faces as well as the older faces. We had 438 competitors at the National Championship this year and the course of fire comprised of 18 stages. Over 150,000 rounds went down range with no incident. IPSC shooting is a fantastic competitive shooting sport. Overall, I’m happy with my performance considering the little practice that I have had in the past two years. Regrettably, two stages were withdrawn on the last day of competition. I had shot those two stages extremely well and needed the 74 of 80 points I gained from these stages to make up for two of my bad stages. Well, the withdrawal of the two stages wasn’t helpful for me. That’s the way competition goes….you win some and you lose some. I had a great time shooting the match and it was even better to see so many friends who I hadn’t seen in 5 years! The shoulder is working very well after surgery and is about 95% recovered. At least I no longer have pain and I don’t have a problem holding my gun up with my strong hand any longer.
