Meera Kumar is a singer/guitar player and has been performing for several years in the Ann Arbor, Michigan area. She also has been a crucial part of the Know Obstacles Band (led by Steve Osburn, a veteran guitar and Chapman Stick player in Ann Arbor) where she is on main and side vocals and plays guitar. She loves to sing pop songs like some tunes by Linda Ronstadt, Roxy Music and the Beatles. I first saw her singing at a Know Obstacles Band's concert 5 years ago when she was 16 and sang Roxy Music, “More than This.” I was very impressed by her beautiful, translucent voice then. This year I had another chance working for Know Obstacles Band for some video productions and saw Meera still performing with the band. Recently, I have been making a series of “live performance” music videos where I play my original songs with other musicians and thought that “Sorrow,” which I wrote 25 years ago would be a good subject for making another video if I could find a female singer who had an “innocent” vocal character that could carry the mezzo-soprano range. So when I saw Meera singing Linda Ronstadt's “Blue Bayou” with Know Obstacles Band I thought of her as the singer of this song if she would be interested in joining my video project. So I talked to Steve about this, and then he helped me contact her family, and finally I was very lucky to have her sing this song in this video. She sang it perfectly even much better than I expected. I think the video looks very nice showing all the attractiveness of her voice and appearance! In fact, I have one more little hope: I'm hoping she will become famous and big one day! I will absolutely brag about this video to the world by saying, “Hey, this famous singer lady sang my original song!”
