Inner and Outer Rocker Panel Replacement | Segment 05 – 1972 GMC “Jimmy”

Replacing rocker panels is definitely not for amateurs, but with a little patience and a few specialty tools, it is a task that can be completed relatively easily. Albeit in eight hours’ time. (I see posts all the time where people have gone to body shops and gotten what they think is an outlandish quote to do some incidental repair. While I am not sure I would call my self a professional, I am pretty focused on this work and I have done this on seven sets of these so I kind of know what I am doing. I also don’t fuck around, so 8 hours is pretty efficient time to complete this task. And now I will move to the other side. I am sure there are others that will say they can do it faster, but I would like to watch them if so.) This video walks through the process to replace the inner and outer rocker panels and explains a few of the specialty tools that are required to do it well. I start out with indexing the critical measurements, and then move to cutting out the spotwelds to remove the outer rocker panel. Then I move to cutting out what is left of the inner rocker panel. Clean and paint the insides of the torsion boxes and that help to manage the twisting moment with no roof, and then fit and install the new inner and out rockers.
