The National Three Peak Challenge

This idea started while discussing it one evening during a game of skittles in 2019. Plans then got underway to take on the National Three Peaks in May 2020. Of course, back then a little virus unfortunately took to the airwaves and the following lockdown put a halt to the proceedings. For some reason, it took us 4 years to get the idea in motion again. But thanks to some pushing from Adam, and a lot of trouble finding a weekend when we were all available, we got a team together and managed to get the challenge up and running this year - 2024. For those unaware, the National Three Peak Challenge involves climbing the highest mountain in each of the three countries of Scotland, England and Wales plus travelling between them, all in 24 hours. Now it's fair to say most of us are all aging, and maybe not very gracefully, but the time has come to give it a go. Our team consisted of 9 hikers and 2 drivers who shared the minibus driving between them. Our challenge began in Scotland on the morning of Saturday August 10th 2024 and we hoped that after climbing Ben Nevis (1345m), Scafell Pike (978m) and then Snowdon (1085m), we would finish no more than 24 hours later on the morning of Sunday 11th. We decided to fundraise for the Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance as they provide an invaluable service to our local community. The LNAA is celebrating it's 30 year anniversary this year having responded to almost 29,000 callouts since they airlifted their first patient on 13th May 1994. https://www.ambucopter.org.uk/make-a-... Check out our JustGiving page to see how much we raised www.justgiving.com/page/headintheclouds Thanks to Lincs Van Hire for being one of the few local minibus hire businesses who replied to me. We also want to give a massive thank you to local business Fine Align (www.fine-align.com) for sponsoring our bus hire costs for the challenge. Experts focussing on the cutting edge of on site laser measurement and machinery installation on Epocast Epoxy Resin Foundations, check them out at www.fine-align.com Also to Dixon and Townsend Mechanical Services for contributions to fuel and to Kieron and Robert (drivers) for generous donations towards fuel, parking and other costs encountered along the way. Lastly a huge thank you to my walking and driving buddies over the weekend. Couldn't have plucked a better squad for the challenge. With a huge lack of sleep added to the mammoth task of this already demanding challenge, watch to find out how we fared. #helimed29 #nationalthreepeaks
