Come take a journey with us up the Paulins Kill River in northwestern New Jersey. A tributary of the mighty Delaware River, it is often called a little unsubstantial river, but its importance to the people of the watershed could not be larger. A gentle, calm river, it has enriched the lives of the people of Sussex and Warren Counties for centuries. Bounded by hills on three sides, the watershed is almost completely self-contained. We have a bounty of clean water. Most streams feeding the river from all sides are designated as C1 trout production tributaries, one of the highest state water-quality ratings. There is little degraded or polluted water being sent downstream by others. It provides drinking water, recreation opportunities, and vital habitat for our region’s flora and fauna. The future of the Paulins Kill will be decided by us. The choices we make, as a community, will determine its future. This is Part 1 of a video series on the Paulins Kill Watershed. This project is made possible through a grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, with support from US Fish and Wildlife Service. The Lower Delaware Wild & Scenic Management Council, as funded by the National Park Service, (www.lowerdelawarewildandscenic.org) supported this project.
