This physics video tutorial provides a basic introduction into the electromotive force generated by a battery. The electromotive force is a voltage source that increases the electric potential energy of the charges in the circuit that allows it to do useful work. Resistors, on the other hand absorb energy from the circuit and reduces the electric potential energy of a charge as it moves through the resistor causing a voltage drop. This video the difference between the electromotive force of a battery and the terminal voltage across a resistor connected in parallel to a battery.
