Tippett, Vaughan Williams, Berkeley/Britten - BBC Symphony Orchestra - Andrew Davis (RAH, 1977)

0:00:00 National Anthem (arr. Benjamin Britten) 0:02:51 Tippett Concerto for Double String Orchestra 0:26:03 Vaughan Williams Serenade to Music (version for 16 soloists) 0:40:29 Lennox Berkeley / Britten Suite of Catalan Dances - Mont Juic These performances were taken from the First Night of the BBC Proms of 1977, and were given in the Royal Albert Hall, London on 22 July 1977. Unfortunately there is some slight low level hum on the left channel in a couple of places (mainly the start). The very opening of the Berkeley/Britten is marred by the audience applause over the first couple of seconds with some fading up of volume on the broadcast. I hope this does not impact your enjoyment. Wendy Eathorne (soprano) Linda Esther Gray (soprano) Margaret Marshall (soprano) Jennifer Smith (soprano) Cynthia Buchan (mezzo-soprano) Ann Murray (mezzo-soprano) Oriel Sutherland (contralto) Anne Collins (contralto) Anthony Rolfe Johnson (tenor) John Elwes (tenor) Neil Mackie (tenor) Keith Erwen (tenor) Peter Knapp (baritone) David Thomas (bass-baritone) Brian Rayner Cook (bass-baritone) Paul Hudson (bass) London Symphony Chorus (National Anthem only) BBC Singers (National Anthem only) BBC Symphony Chorus (National Anthem only) BBC Symphony Orchestra conducted by Andrew Davis For more details see: https://www.bbc.co.uk/events/e5gfxj This is part of a collection of live "off air" recordings from radio broadcasts I have made since 1970, and I have recently preserved by transferring from tape to digital format.
