Gillian Anderson celebrates her 'fiercely independent' 'X-Files' character while getting a Hollywood

(9 Jan 2018) GILLIAN ANDERSON CELEBRATES HER 'X-FILES' CHARACTER AT WALK OF FAME CEREMONY Gillian Anderson celebrated her "fiercely independent" "X-Files" character as she was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Monday (8 JANUARY). "I first moved to Los Angeles 25 years ago to become a film actress. But then I had the great good fortune of landing in Chris Carter's television universe in the shoes of Dana Katherine Scully -- a woman who wasn't just the object of a man's desire, but a strong-willed, smart, brave woman who was career-driven and fiercely independent," Anderson said. "The combination of Chris's creation and whatever rookie, naïve, terrified, determined will I brought to the table manifested a young woman yet to be depicted on TV. And as the fan response would soon prove, a desperately needed role model for women of all ages everywhere – who it turns out were simply not seeing themselves represented." Anderson was joined by "Hannibal" showrunner Bryan Fuller and actor Joel McHale, who appeared on "The X-Files." "'X-Files' fans, your queen is here. Here is your queen. Do not touch her. She will not sign stuff, OK? Especially body parts or personal diaries. Trust me, I have already asked," McHale said. The 49-year-old actress' star is next to that of her longtime "X-Files" co-star David Duchovny. Duchovny wasn't in attendance, but Anderson thanked him anyway. "I could not have wished for a more perfect platonic partner to spend 25 years of my life. Who would've guessed that when we sat side-by-side in the hallway at Fox during that ghastly audition process, 25 years on, we would not only still be filming but that we would be permanent concrete neighbors on the Hollywood Walk of Fame?" she said. The eleventh season of "The X-Files" premiered last week on Fox in the U.S. Find out more about AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/HowWeWork Twitter:   / ap_archive   Facebook:   / aparchives    Instagram:   / apnews   You can license this story through AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/metadata/you...
