Midland Mainline in 2003/04 - Valenta HST’s & more!

Recently I discovered some home videos on VHS that were taken back in 2003 & 2004 on them was lots of old footage taken when I was younger. Obviously this was filmed when I was young some of it by myself and some by my dad. The quality isn’t up to much compared to today’s standards and my quality of filming has come along way but there’s still some salvageable, excellent footage of the Midland Mainline. Best sound is through headphones some awesome Valenta action in this video! Some shots taken at the “original” St Pancras under the train shed as well as some footage at Bedford & Leicester. This was also filmed during “project Rio”. For those of you who aren’t aware, while the West Coast Mainline was undergoing a face lift so to speak to allow for the pendolinos to run at 125mph, services were operating from St Pancras to Manchester Piccadilly because of the reduced capacity on the West Coast Route. Meaning some ex. Virgin HST’s & coaches moved over to Midland Mainline to help operate these services. Also at the same time Midland Mainline were undergoing their rebranding from the classic green & orange livery, to the more recent blue & grey livery. So some of the HST’s are a complete mix of colours! Red, blue & green as you will see. Also featured is a Midland Mainline Class 170 Turbostar at St Pancras and a shot of the first ever class 222 Meridian I had ever seen, filmed in late 2004 just a month or so after entering service. There’s a shot of a Central Trains class 156 arriving at Leicester. Another few rare things to look out for are the EMU’s at Bedford! In the background a “Connex South Central” livery 319 operating for Thameslink and a shot of a WAGN class 317... at Bedford! Certainly a few surprises, even for myself when I looked through the footage for the first time in what must have been over 15 years! Enjoy this footage, hope it brings back some good memories as it did to me! Thanks for watching! SUBSCRIBE TO MY CHANNEL FOR MORE & FOLLOW ME ON TWITTER:   / train_planehub
