Dean Hallett shares his career story, and what enabled him to learn how to become a leader. After serving as CFO of the Walt Disney Company, he moved to 20th Century Fox - a place known for its entrepreneurial culture and can-do spirit. What he noticed is that for all the talent and intelligence present in the company at the time, there was zero budget allotted for leadership training. He noticed that leadership skills were lacking. He worked with the HR department to invest in some leadership development among members of upper management, followed up by middle management training. This process engaged Dean, and he learned through the process of developing an organization where people got into alignment around a common purpose, then openness, honesty, collaboration, and creativity emerged and high performance could exist at every level of the organization. When he left Fox in 2018, he brought his experience developing tomorrow’s leaders today into his new venture, Hallett Leadership.
