Early miscarriage is the one where the abortion takes place within the 12th week of pregnancy. That is called as early miscarriage. But this very early miscarriage is the one which happens before the 5th week of pregnancy or before eth patient could now that she was pregnant. So it goes like this, you miss your periods for few days or a week and you do a urine pregnancy test, a card test which shows positive and we do blood test beta HCG which shows an elevated level. So your pregnancy is conformed and you come back to your doctor and say that you have a spotting or a bleeding. So the doctor does an ultrasound scan and nothing is seen inside or outside the uterus. Get a beta HCG done; your levels have declined rather increasing. This is a condition called as chemical pregnancy. Only the laboratory tests say that you are pregnancy and clinically you are not. In these cases when you have miscarriage, this is what is called as very early miscarriage. In these cases, normally we allow the patient to bleed and she will bleed for a week, maybe it will be a little more than normal, maybe associated with little cramps or clots. Normally it settle down within a week, then you allow her to have a normal periods and after that she can plan for a pregnancy. So the chemical pregnancy which happens in the first week of pregnancy is called as very early miscarriage.
