Resuming Rail Service After Hurricane Helene: CSX & Amtrak Trains in Lakeland, FL 9/28/24 4k60fps

Our hearts go out to all those impacted by the devastating Hurricane Helene. To those who lost homes, livelihoods, or loved ones, we offer our deepest condolences and hope for a swift recovery. In the face of this storm, communities will rise again, and the resilient spirit of rebuilding will shine through. The return of trains to the tracks is a small yet uplifting sign of recovery and progress. On September 28th, I headed out to Lakeland, FL, to witness the resumption of rail services after Hurricane Helene, which caused major disruptions and track damage across Tennessee, North Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. With backlogs and repairs ongoing, trains slowly began to run again, bringing hope and progress to a storm-ravaged region. 1st Train: CSX S982 delivered unfinished Brightline cars, led by CSX #5262 ES40DC. This unique delivery was a rare sight, marking the rebuilding of services. 2nd Train: CSX C040, a loaded coal train destined for the Stanton Power Plant in Orlando, powered through the tracks with CSX #3202 ES44AC-H in the lead and CSX #3120 ET44AH trailing. 3rd Train: The daily M Mixed Freight was re-profiled to X603 due to Hurricane Helene's backlog. CSX #5387 ES40DC led this train, followed by CSX #62 CW44AC. 4th Train: Amtrak resumed operations with a surprise appearance by P091, featuring two Phase IV units and a heritage leader, #164, with #83 trailing. This was a heartwarming sign of normalcy returning, despite the challenges ahead. It's moments like these that show the strength of railroads and their ability to keep moving forward, even in tough times.
