Come Harvest Apples l Canning Apple Pie Filling & Homemade Pie

Come Harvest Apples with me! I'm doing my best this year to get the apples off the frees and into the pantry for use later in the season. We have so many and the canning season is just beginning so I have my work cut out for me. I'm sharing an apple pie filling and pie recipe today with you and I tell you the kitchen fall cozy vibes are real. Easy Apple Pie Filling For Canning 4 ½ cups white sugar 1 cup cooking starch used for preserving, such as ClearJel 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg ( I like to use fresh) 10 cups water 2 teaspoons salt 3 tablespoons lemon juice 2 drops yellow food coloring (Optional) 6 pounds apples ( I ended up using a little more ) Gather all your ingrediencies, wash apples well. Mix sugar, starch, cinnamon and nutmeg in a large pot. add water and salt and mix well. Bring to a boil and cook until thicker and bubbly. Remove from heat and add lemon juice and food color if you like. In clean canning jars add your pealed and sliced apples packing in well. I like to peel and slice into a water bath with lemon juice to aid in helping apples not turn brown. I add hot water to jars to warm them up and have my lids ready as well as my rings. Sanitizing jars, lids and rings are recommended. After jars are ready to packed with apples, slowly ladle in the pie filling making sure to not trap any large air bubbles. I use a knife to help aid in this step. wipe down the top of jars with a little vinegar and put you lids and rings on. I water bath for 25 min and let them cool a little before pulling. No Fail Pie Crust (Best Ever) 2 1/4 Cup Flour (I use bread or pastry flour) 1 tsp. Salt 1 Cup Butter 1/3 Cup Cold Water In a bowl whisk together the flour and salt Using a pastry cutter tool or tow knifes cut in butter so that is resembles small pea size. Add water and mix with your hand until it forms a dough. I use a little more flour to add in rolling it out both on my rolling pin and on the counter surface. I use a 8inch pie After assembling your pie and adding your filling bake for 55 to 60 minuets depending on your oven. I put a parchment paper under with a cookie sheet incase it spilled over and it sure did. Let cool and enjoy!
