The Barely Legal fly is a Kelly Galloup pattern who is known for producing awesome streamer patterns and this one is no exception. The thing I love most about this pattern of his, is the minimum number of materials needed to tie this. Hooks, Chenille, thread and marabou. These are materials that any fly tyer should already have in their drawers and so it should be one that you could try without the need to purchase much. I generally don't stray too far from his original pattern, but for this one I want a little bit of weight so I added this large baitfish head. This will help it dive on the pauses and then as you strip in your fly line rise up and cause that tail to keep swinging and moving. You could add a brass nickle cone as the original recipe calls for or make a resin head with some eyes as well. Tie some up and add them to your box in these exact colors. Change the belly to some grays or silvers, change the back color to some darker olives or blacks, or who knows maybe a blue and pink color combo could be the golden ticket.
