Fort Del Pilar, Baguio City 16 March 2014 "Kung tungkulin nating pairalin ang Honor Code sa loob ng institusyong ito, panindigan din sana natin ito sa labas ng PMA," said President Benigno S. Aquino III to the graduating Siklab Diwa (Sundalong Ikararangal ng Lahing Bayani sa Diwang Wagas) Class of 2014 when he led the 109th commencement exercises of the Philippine Military Academy held in Baguio City. In his remarks, President Aquino challenged the 222 graduating cadets to maintain and keep the Courage, Integrity and Loyalty principles of PMA aflame, as the test of being a true soldier emanates outside their alma matter. "Bilang Commander-in-Chief, umaasa akong kung gaano ka-automatic sa inyo na ilapat ang teorya at taktikang natutuhan sa tunay na bakbakan, ay siya rin sanang tatag ng inyong prinsipyong itakwil ang mali at pumanig sa katwiran," he said. He also expressed government's efforts to nourish and protect the welfare of the country's armed forces. A total of 63,000 rifles are expected to be distributed in the following months. Aside from the Modernization Bill, 54,449 affordable housing units were made available to the families of the uniformed men. Newly acquired military ships and aircrafts are also being bequeathed to improve military services. According to PMA Spokesperson Maj. Agnes Lynette Flores, the Siklab Diwa Class of 2014 has the greatest number of graduating cadets throughout the years. This class spearheaded the anti-maltreatment campaign -- a policy which aims to eradicate any forms of hazing and the first to produce a female adjutant. Joining the President during the event were Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief-of-Staff Gen. Emmanuel Bautista, Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin and PMA Supt. Maj. Gen. Oscar Lopez. * *
