In this video, we start the day of our anniversary in Sango Sands, taking our 2 rescue chihuahuas for a morning walk on the deserted beach. After this we hit the road and head the mile or so to Balnakeil Craft Village, where we go to the much touted Cocoa Mountain. There was nothing wrong with it, but it didn't live up to the massive expectations we'd built up from everyone else's reviews. The croissants were nice and the flat white was well priced. The Mountain Mocha was pleasant enough but didn't warrant the £4.95 price tag. As I say, there was nothing wrong with it and I'd give it the benefit of the doubt and go back to try their signature hot chocolate (in case that's the thing that really prompts the rave reviews). Heading onwards, we left the NC500 for a bit as we moved towards Kinlochbervie. It was a massive relief to find a petrol station with diesel, after the one in Durness didn't have any! We also investigated the Loch Clash Stopover. It sounds like a great place but it was already quite busy with all the electric hookups taken when we arrived, so, as the weather wasn't great and it was still quite early, we decided to press on. And so we found ourselves spending the night at the Scourie Caravan Park in Scourie. We found it online and booked a pitch in case it got full up - there is actually good phone signal along most of the NC500 route - and were glad we did, as we got another pitch directly on the bay, with more stunning views. The evening was very still as we checked out the local beaches and we saw (and felt) the first (and thankfully only) midges of the trip. We decided to do this trip in April to avoid the risk of midges and just a few hours of mild midges was enough to convince us we'd done the right thing.
