Train Cab Ride NL / King's Day Stranding / Rotterdam - Delft - Amsterdam / VIRM IC / April 2022

Hi everyone! Welcome on board an EXTRA video! I know you wouldn't expect a video this week, but since we had Kings Day (celebration of the Kings birthday) in The Netherlands I will make an exception. I hope you will enjoy this special ride. A lot will happen on the way to Amsterdam. 0:00 Rotterdam Centraal We depart with a small delay from Rotterdam. The train arrived here after running behind a delayed sprinter and we had to couple our train with another train set as well. This to make room for more passengers. 3:21 Schiedam Centrum 9:24 Delft Campus (Delft Update) Time for another Delft update! Of course the construction works here are still going on. A lot of work is done since the last video on this route. Give your eyes to time to see the difference. 10:04 Delft At Delft we stumble upon yellow signals leading to a red one. There sprinter ahead of us is not running its normal schedule. Just before we arrive at the red light we can enter the station. And now we see more red light then we should see! The sprinter is stranded in the tunnel right in front of us. Keep Updated In the upcoming minutes you will hear a lot of communication between me, the passengers (on board), the train dispatcher (location Den Haag) and the train managers (on board). I've explained as much as I can in the video texts. Smoke Prevention Ventilation You can hear the tunnel ventilation work on maximum power. That makes a lot of noise. The reason the ventilation is working is because of the stranded train. When a train comes to an (unplanned) stop in the tunnel the ventilation will start running automatically. The reason is that in case of fire smoke must be lead out of the tunnel ASAP. Of course there's not fire now, but all systems in the tunnel will start working a worse scenario. So that explains the loud noise. Ventilation will keep working until all train in the tunnel are running again. Time to Continue After a minute or ten it's time to continue our journey. The sprinter has cleared our path and now it's a matter of getting back on schedule so far as possible until we reach our final destination. 21:14 Rijswijk At the passage of Rijswijk you'll hear me make a call with the train dispatcher to request green signals at Den Haag HS. This makes us approach the station with 80km/h instead of 40km/h. After contact with the train dispatcher I give an update to the train manager so he knows the doors can be shut right after passengers have unboarded and boarded the train. 21:59 Den Haag Moerwijk 22:40 Den Haag HS Busy day because of Kings Day. Most passengers are already partying in the city's. In the morning and the evening we have most passengers in the trains on Kings Day. So what you see in this video is nothing when it comes to passenger numbers. ;) 26:50 Den Haag Laan van NOI 29:47 Den Haag Mariahoeve A few kilometers after this station I will contact the train dispatcher Leiden Centraal to request green signals again for a quicker approach and departure from the station. 32:27 Voorschoten 33:43 De Vink 34:43 Leiden Centraal We arrive with a 8 minute delay and depart with a 4 minute delay. This because the planned stop in the train schedule was set to 5 minutes. So we lose a lot of our delay here. :) 40:44 Voorhout Enjoy the upcoming flower fields! :D 43:33 ATB Track Failure At Lisse the speed signal coming from the track is faulty. Instead of the 130km/h speed limit the train receives a speed limit of 40km/h. This is what we call an ATB Track Failure. We must drive on sight as soon as possible until we pass a main signal that allows a higher speed. After this I report back what happened to the passengers and the train dispatcher. This also allows me to request green signals at Haarlem to a quicker approach in the station. 46:23 Hillegom 49:22 Heemstede-Aerdenhout Due to the ATB Track Failure we haven't made our delay any smaller than it was. 53:16 Haarlem Only three minutes delay at arrival and departure now. Getting back on schedule soon! 57:31 Haarlem Spaarnwoude 59:39 Halfweg-Zwanenburg 1:02:13 Amsterdam Sloterdijk (Construction Works) At Amsterdam Sloterdijk you can see construction works going on. Extra junctions and new signals are set in place to make sure trains from Haarlem can change direction at Sloterdijk in the near future. This because Amsterdam Central Station will be under construction in the upcoming years. 1:06:15 Amsterdam Centraal We arrive perfectly on time on our final destination. The full 11 minute delay is gone now. Hope you've enjoyed the extra ride this week. See you back next week for the normal two-week-update! :D Questions? Let me know in het comments below.
