The Coalition Underestimated Iraq's Hardest Fighting Unit | Iraq 2003

When the US-led coalition invaded Iraq in March 2003, General Tommy Franks believed the main threats to be the Iraqi Army and Republican Guard units. What he underestimated was the strength of the Fedayeen Saddam, a militia controlled by Saddam Hussein's son Uday. These were hard fighters who continued to fight to the end, and reaked havoc upon the long coalition supply lines from Kuwait to the tip of the spear of the march on Baghdad.
