The latest 2017 version adds Dynamic Chassis Control, navigation, and advanced safety features, turning what looks a lot like a regular Golf into a car fully capable on the track as well as long highway drives. At over $40K, it costs a whole lot more than a regular Golf, but it delivers a whole lot more, too. The R is more car than most people can reliably handle on public roads. With Dynamic Chassis Control and its adaptive suspension dampers, a driver can screw things down or loosen them up with a couple of button presses, so you can cruise up to your favorite canyons in Comfort mode and tighten things up with Sport or Race settings when you get to your destination. And with summer tires, the R will come to a stop from 60 mph in just over 100 feet.
