[MKW TAS] Dry Dry Ruins Flap (Ultra) - 16.830 by Jellopuff and Police

This is a tool-assisted speedrun. This time will not count on any real-time rankings. Done on Dolphin 5.0 with savestates, slowdown, frame advance, TAS code, Info Display (created by SwareJonge), and TASToolkit Lua Scripts (created by LuigiM). Input Display overlay created by WhatIsLoaf. Woah, I don't know what took me over there. Sorry about that! Let's try this again. About nine months ago, I published the first ever Daytripper TAS BKT, a 20 second Unrestricted (UR) Flap TAS of Dry Dry Ruins which was, at the time, arguably the most elaborate flap TAS ever created for an official category. While this TAS would soon be accompanied by several more completely ridiculous flaps (such as the current DS Peach Gardens and Koopa Cape UR Flaps, both of which I'd highly recommend checking out, they're incredible), the 20.058 DDR UR Flap was, and still is, a brilliant example of our community's ingenuity. Funnily enough though, by completely reinventing this track's ultra altogether, I somehow made the category even more elaborate despite using a much simpler setup. My original motivation to take another look at this track stemmed from the fact that, in the creation of the 20.058, I was unable to reach checkpoint 33 before being counted out-of-bounds using the Daytripper method. CP33 links to a respawn point which is only one checkpoint away from KCP4, so it's preferable to hit it before respawning when possible. Sadly though, my efforts to find a method of reaching CP33 left me empty handed as there was no way I could find to get onto the OOB seam lining the outer perimeter of the track while in front of the finish line. However, I knew from previous testing that there was, in theory, a way to get on the OOB seam on the inner perimeter by getting "fake horizontal wall glitch" off the slab after the lake. While analyzing this, I had a shocking realization. Remember how I said that CP33 respawns you one checkpoint away from the last KCP? Well, CP31, the checkpoint that CP33 usually respawns you to, is linked to a respawn point that places you in the last KCP. This is massive because it means that, by respawning here, we don't have to turn around after respawning, we don't have to turn around after hitting the last KCP, and we can even get a ton of boost frames from the trick ramp. That said, it makes sense that nobody ever considered this since none of the previously known ultra methods even come remotely close to hitting CP31 before respawning. Conveniently, however, that slab I mentioned earlier is surprisingly close to CP31. To put it simply, every element was exactly where it needed to be for a potential new method to seem realistic, and sure enough, on the 17th of May, the "slab clip" method became a reality! The setup for this run is initially very similar to the previous BKT. We start by entering a dayclip state, a tech discovered by xnik which allows the Daytripper to drive with one wheel in the floor, and then drive in that state all the way to the finish line. The key difference here is that in this TAS, we get into the dayclip state shroomless from the beginning, something which had to be done this time since the slab clip method of the ultra requires all three shrooms to be saved for the flap. Once we reach the finish line, the route heavily diverges from the previous flap. We use a variant of the delayed lap count strat, but this time, we just start the flap outright. Further, instead of hopping, we abuse the change in slope to clip the vehicle through the floor without a hop. This simultaneously gives us more height and more rotation than the hop method, allowing us to bounce off the wall to skip the lake entirely. Upon landing, we time a shroom input to drastically increase the pitch of the kart and ramp off of the sloped ground to wallclip onto the slab. We then quickly slide towards the wall, abuse FHWG to bypass it, precisely land on the seam, and use our final shroom to reach CP31 before being counted out of bounds. The rest of the run proceeds "largely as you'd expect", RFHA lowtrick, kart supergrind, boom.
