An excerpt from our "Newborn to New Home" breeder course...We get a lot of questions about weaning which are all answered in this course. The original Puppy Culture film deals mostly with the behavioral angle of raising a puppy...this new breeder course has the nuts and bolts of how to care for a litter. We filmed our last litter every single day starting at birth for 10 weeks so you could see the entire process unfold, from weaning to potty and crate training to leash walking and socialization. You can join the course here: https://tv.madcapuniversity.com/ Weaning is always a big question (probably second only to litter training) and we cover it extensively in the course - we call our system "Cog and Wheel Weaning" and (as you might guess) it relies on behavioral markers in the dam and the puppies to move to each next step. So, even though your puppies may not track the same as ours age-wise, you'll still understand when they are ready to move from stage to stage of weaning - it's not about a timeline, but learning what's right for your litter, and no two litters are the same. Final comment, even if you are a kibble feeder or the puppies are going to homes where they will be fed kibble, our weaning process will stand your puppies in good stead by building up their gut biome so they will actually be able to get more nutrition from a kibble diet.
