A homesite that has been deserted since the mid 1800s is now buried in the forest and I wonder what it looked like way back then. Exploring a colonial to mid 1800s New England farm and a bit of metal detecting made for a fun day. I walked all over this place following the rock walls, pasture, old fields and walked around the cellar hole and barn foundation. Reading the landscape history to see how they forged the land and moved a lot of rock and earth carving their farm out on the hillside. This site would have been abandoned some time before the civil war and has just been being consumed slowly by Mother Nature. A lot of the rock walls are almost buried in the brush and becoming not so visible to see. Finding and exploring old places like this is amazing specially when you really see just how massive these old farms were.
