Poem I write mourning the loss of my Sarah Bernhardt flowers after my husband accidentally cut them off when he was weedeating 😪 ODE TO SARAH BERNHARDT There once was a peony bush named Sarah Bernhardt, Whose cultivator tried for four years to get her to bloom, Each year she'd come back beautiful, lush and green, But never a flower which made her cultivator feel so gloom. Then one day her cultivator asked another cultivator, What she could do to make Sarah's blooms appear, To which the response was to give her fertilizer, And this Sarah's cultivator started doing when she returned the following year. Sarah's cultivator fed her once a week, week after week, Then one day she spotted a small, round bud, Needless to say, she was excited beyond what any words could express, And it was then that she knew her sweet Sarah would no longer be a stick in the mud. As the weeks rolled by, Sarah sprouted more buds, A total of three, but there were more on their way, Until early one morning while her cultivator was still asleep, The cultivator's husband's weedeater got too close and cut off all but one of Sarah's florets that sad, sad day. I'm sure you can imagine how the cultivator felt, When she discovered what her husband had done, And although he was sincerely apologetic, Nothing could ease her sorrow, and all she could do was mourn. Then just as the cultivator was starting to feel better, One stormy morning, the wind broke the damaged stem of the floret that was remaining, And the cultivator's grief started all over again, Thinking about having to wait a whole year for Sarah's buds to return was extremely draining. Then Sarah's cultivator had an idea, She put Sarah's last floret in a container of water, And set her in a sunlit east-facing window, Where it seems Sarah's bud's blooming time got shorter and shorter. Within three days Sarah's bud had completely opened, Much to her cultivator's amazement and delight, No longer did she feel sad and in mourning, For Sarah's last surviving bud had blossomed so beautiful, pink and bright!
