Mike Tyson vs Mark Young 27.12.1985

Mike Tyson takes on Mark Young for his final fight of 1985. This fight would be Tyson's 15th in just over 9 months. An incredibly busy and active schedule which you will most likely never see again in boxing. More info below... Mark Young had a 8-6 record with 1 NC at the time of this Tyson fight however it was incorrectly announced as as a more respectful 12-4-1 during introductions. This was probably intentional to make it seem like Tyson's eventual win was worth more than it actually was... Because no disrespect to Young but he was not much more than a "bum". Young had turned pro in 1983 and lost his first fight by a unanimous 6 round decision. He was able to pick up a few wins against absolute nobodies but he also lost fights to future WBC World Cruiserweight Champion Bernard Benton and a young Bert Cooper among some other lesser known boxers. In his most recent outing, Young was KO'd in 3 by Mike Cohen. Tyson was going to wrap up the year in style with another easy win that was surely never in doubt. It would mark his 15th fight since turning pro in March of 1985 with all his previous 14 wins coming by way of KO. His longest fight to date was against Don Halpin back in May who lasted 4 rounds before being viciously KO'd. 10 of Tyson's opponents never made it out of the first round... With the exception of some jabs and a couple body shots, Young threw a lot of punches but didn't land many. Young also didn't appear scared of Tyson at all and kept coming forward recklessly. Tyson appeared slightly unsure what to do with Young as most Tyson opponents either keep their distance or didn't fight back with this much vigor... but eventually Tyson landed with a glancing right uppercut that sent Young bouncing off the ropes and down for the count motionless. It wasn't the most convincing knockout punch and Tyson didn't seem to expect it, but it was still a solid win regardless. Young would get KO'd in his next 3 fights as well against Terry Anderson, James Tillis and Gary Mason. Things would not get any better for Young and although he picked up the odd win here and there he retired with a 14-37-1 record that spanned 15 years. He ended up fighting some of the biggest names in the sport from home and abroad. These include George Foreman, Greg Page, Lou Savarese, Glenn McCrory, Buster Mathis Jr, Adilson Rodrigues, Shannon Briggs, Zeljko Mavrovic, Hasim Rahman and a very young Wladimir Klitschko. In just 9 months Tyson had compiled a 15-0 record with all wins by way of KO and 11 in the first round. 1985 was a great year for the "Dynamite Kid" but 1986 was going to be even better and only slightly less hectic...
