Joffre Lakes is among B.C.'s beautiful and easily-accessible hikes. It feature three turquoise lakes, the Holloway Falls and a campground. In spring and winter, the lakes are generally frozen and although the signature turquoise colors are not visible, they manifest a different landscape with picturesque glaciers, icefields and snow-capped peaks towering over the lakes. This trail is famous for hikers, skiers, picnic day-users alike, being easily accessible from the highway, open year-long and offering various activity and skill-level options. Parking is just off Duffey Lake Road north of Pemberton. Hike to the lower lake is quick and downhill which makes it popular and busy during summer. Most of the elevation is gained on the hike from lower to middle lake. Just a few minutes from the middle lake is the Holloway Falls which runs through Joffre creek and connects the middle and upper lake. Not that far from the waterfall is the last stretch to the upper lake. The trail skirts around the right side of the upper lake leading to the upper campground on the south side. We hiked across the frozen lakes (with care) which reduced our hiking distance. This hike offers stunning views of Matier glacier, Mount Matier, Tszil glacier and Mount Tszil, Joffre Peak, Slalok Mountain and Cayoosh mountain. Statistics: Distance: 10.9 km Elevation Gain: 380 m.
