Kebiliththa Dewalaya Nanumura poojawa - කැබිලිත්ත දේවාලයේ නානුමුර පුජාව The Nanu Mura Poojawa ceremony is a special way of showing respect to the god Kataragama by taking his statue to the nearby river, called Kubukkan Oya, and bathing it with a mixture of milk, fruits, and water. This is not something that happens often, as it isn't easy to take the statue out of the shrine. The head person of the shrine, called Kapu Mahaththaya, chants to ask permission to take the statue out. When the statue is taken out, there is a noticeable change in the surroundings, and everyone chants "Haro-Hara" out loud. All the men wear white clothes and use a white cloth to cover their faces during the ceremony. This ceremony is considered very sacred and rewarding. After the bathing, the statue is dressed with great honor and taken back to the shrine in a procession. The Kebilitta Wandana is a difficult pilgrimage to the sacred Tamarind Tree Shrine of Kebilitta, located in the Yala Block III near Kumbukkan Oya, to seek blessings from the god Skanda. The Kataragama Esala Festival is held near the historic Ruhunu Kataragama Maha Devalaya in the south of Sri Lanka and draws thousands of devotees who pay respect to God Kataragama. The festival includes a ritual with a chariot carrying the deity God Kataragama. Kebilitta is believed to be the spiritual residence of God Skanda and is considered a place of great divine power. Although many devotees visit the historic shrine of Ruhunu Kataragama Maha Devalaya and the Kiri Vehera dagoba, some believe that the god Kataragama prefers to spend time in the peaceful surroundings of Kebilitta.
